My Favorite Grubs in Town

Loads of new pubs & restaurants seem to be sprouting in Mumbai City these day .

Here is a list of my Favorite few

Global Fusion

If you  like to experiment with numerous cuisines and are ready to rock your palette…there can't be a better place than Global Fusion A visual treat for your eyes with innumerable dishes on display. A wide selection of Sushi and Sashimi. And the best part, not very expensive too.

The ambience is exotic and relaxing. A decor and red chinese light shades transport you to the far east. The light reflecting water pond in the middle adds to its charm. The staff is cheerful and prompt. Please take a tour to explore the dishes on display, before you get on with your food. You can choose from multiple soups, sashimi’s, dumplings, tempura, fritters, salad and spring rolls. Made to order stir fried starters, sticky rice and many more. While most of the items are self service, some of them will be made fresh and brought to your table. The main course served in the adjoining section is another delectable affair with Thai curry, rice, noodles and other meat, sea food items. The Dessert corner is a variety of unlimited cakes and pastries with unlimited Baskin Robbins Ice Cream corner (Yum).

So, if you are planning to seriously binge, this is the place for you.

5 Spice

I don't even know where to begin! This place boasts of possibly the LARGEST menu i have ever come across under the Chinese Cuisine! It is sooo confusing because everything looks so tempting and honestly-- it is :). They possibly have every dish covered under Chicken, Fish, Lamb , Crabs and Prawns! i couldn't have possibly eaten everything (especially considering HOW LARGGGEEE their portion is!) but i know for a fact that their Prawn Pot Rice, Crispy Thread Chicken , Prawns in Sezchuan Sauce,  Red Chilly Pepper Babycorn and Thai Pot Rice (PHEWWW!!!) is BRILLIANT ! I can assure you that you will love everything they have on the menu! And coming to the BEST part-- the desserts!!!! 5 Spice has Sinful Temptations for all with a sweet tooth out there --Death by Chocolate , Rich Chocolate Pie, Amazing Cheesecakes, Toblerone cake, Chocolate Flakes Gateaux, Mission Impossible  (!!!!!) and Rocky Road! Wherever you eat a 5 spice meal- Fort, Bandra or in your Living-room - you will love it!! It doesn't even end here-- most importantly -- this ravishing spread comes at an unbelievable price (avg 500 per person!). I hope i have managed to convey what i wanted to through this review-- if u haven't been to 5 Spice , you certainly haven't been "Living it Up."

Leopold Cafe

Leopold's Cafe and Bar is probably one of the most well-known restaurants among the ones located on Colaba Causeway. Although it's similar to Cafe Mondegar, there are things other than the food to draw one to this particular joint, such as the scenes in and about the place. Look inside and discover there a very vibrant, humming crowd of customers hailing from various nationalities and walks of life. Look outside and enjoy the most thrilling view of good ol' Mumbai possible. Another attraction of Leopold's is that it is a place that believes in serving hefty portions of food at a reasonable price.
The hot & Sweet beef,Dragon Prawns, Beef Teriyaki, Fish with Baboo shoots & Mashrooms, 3 in 1 rice and various salads are awesome

Gregory David Roberts a.k.a. Shantaram maybe seen here :)

Golden Wok

Golden Wok is spacious, but uncluttered – two floors restaurant in New Bombay. The chinese interiors give it a very serene look
The menu has a fair mix of the usual suspects, plus some more exciting looking stuff. You have pages based around fish, prawns, squid (just a few items), lamb, chicken (a couple of pages worth), and a largish vegetarian selection. Strangely, no pork, which is a little disappointing. :(

The soups served here are yum. The Crispy Thread Chicken & The Dimsims  are very good, and quite a substantial serving for a starter.

Chinese tea to sip between dishes and cleanse the palate isn’t on the menu, but it is served if you ask for it. You are given the option of eating your rice with chopsticks here too

If you love seafood I highly recommend the squids here. You may not have a lot of variety in this section but whatever is there is really good.

The Chicken black peper sauce and chicken Volcano is a treat for those who favor poultry

From the other dishes , the Chicken Burnt Ginger Garlic Rice is a clear winner, even if a little too oily.

Dessert has limited options if you want to stay true to the mission have the Honey-glazed Noodles with Ice-cream
The verdict: Food, decent. Excellent value for money in terms of serving sizes. A starter and a main course are more than enough for two moderate eaters. If you even eat heavy, you may still get change out of thousand. The clincher? Warm, very friendly, attentive service. I’ll be eating there again soon.

Joss

JOSS, a fine dining restaurant,is the success story and brainchild of renowned Chef Farrokh Khambata. Nestled in the corporate and art hub of Kala Ghoda, the restaurant has created a niche for itself in the world of Modern Far Eastern Cuisine and promises further delight with time to come. This gastronomical adventure offers authentic Japanese, Malaysian, Indonesian and Balinese cuisine.
The menu flaunts dishes like the Oriental Crab Bisque, the Crisp but Tender Peking Inspired Duck, Nonya Bamboo Chicken, Balinese Clay Pot of Zucchini, Young Corn and Broccoli; Norwegian Salmon Flavored with Dill, Lemon Butter and Crisp Seaweed, and also the Mekong Whisky Flambéed Prawns in China Spoons. The Sushi at JOSS, which is already well-appreciated in the party circuit, is priced realistically and made with the freshest ingredients.

The silken coconut and basil hot- seller Balinese Curry or Grilled Chicken Breast with Coriander 'n' Wasabi, Oyster in Red Wine Sauce are a must try. Wind up with the Joss Hot Kahlua Chocolate Souffle or a really interesting dessert of Sushi of Strawberry 'n' Banana in Chocolate Nori with Kiwi Wasabi and Blueberry.
A must visit.

Pop Tate's

Who hasn’t already heard of pop tates? For those who haven’t Your a looser…Poptaes is awesome.

I could start by mentioning everyone’s favorite ‘happy hours’ between 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm where you get one drink free on every one drink you order. So get the beer flowing… :) You cannot stay away from its sizzlers and appetizers. Service is great and so is the ambience. (You can even get into an argument with the person on the next table if you are drunk enough.)
Don’t ever expect the place to be empty… ever!
For the Sizzling sizzlers… For the drinks… for the fish n chips or even some good music… for giving me happy afternoons :)… and for a lot more… pop tates gets my high five!
